Program Levels
We offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced instruction for both children and adults. All levels of experience are welcome!
Our Junior Program
The Randall School of Karate teaches kids how to defend themselves, but not in the hardcore, violent way you might imagine.
We teach our students to be safe by using a common sense approach to protection. This means understanding self-defense techniques, self-defense strategy, and conflict resolution techniques. We also teach body language concepts to our students, such as body posture, eye contact, and voice. Our teaching is designed to give your child a confident appearance that communicates, "I am a nice person, and," importantly, "I am not a person that can be taken advantage of."
Our second area of emphasis is physical fitness. We develop fundamental athletic skills like coordination, flexibility, and body balance. These are skills that are required for baseball, soccer, tennis, and golf, but which are usually are not taught very well; they are simply expected. Sports programs often assume that children will already have these skills, and if you have them, you do well. But if you don't, you're left behind. However, these skills are in fact teachable. When we develop them in our classroom, it sends kids back to the ball fields and back to gym class not only more capable, but also more confident in those environments.
The third component, however, is our main focus. It represents our uniqueness, and also what parents like best about our program. It is the way we teach the attitude skills of the Martial Arts. These skills include instruction in and development of the eight virtues of the black belt. These virtues are: modesty, courtesy, integrity, compassion, gratitude, self-control, perseverance, and indomitable spirit.
The truly powerful aspect of our program is the fact that it does not just teach our students about these skills and values, but actually leads them to experience these important skills in our classroom. Students are then taught how to apply these skills and values in their daily lives while away from school. Academically, socially, and within the home, our students are empowered to perform at higher levels, and they do!
What makes it work? What holds all three parts together? The fact that it's so much fun! Our teachers are really wonderful people, and ours is a friendship-based system. Hundreds of children in New Hampshire love the martial arts at Uechiryu Butokukai. Your child will too.
Adult Martial Arts
Our adult curriculum is a unique self-defense and self-improvement program. Karate, as taught at our school, can help improve a person physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Uechi karate consists of three related areas of training:
TRAINING OF THE BODY to include flexibility, coordination, balance, strength, speed, and stamina.
TRAINING OF THE MIND to include concentration, awareness, emotional discipline, and confidence.
TRAINING IN SELF-DEFENSE to include timing, distancing, accuracy, techniques of blocking and counterattacking, and psychological principles of fighting.
